Following assurance of the Keonjhar district Collector, the aggrieved students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Hadagarh in Keonjhar district called off their agitation on Tuesday afternoon.

Collector N Thirumala Nayak, who met the students at the dharna site at Chhenapadi Square asked the school principal to go on leave and assured the students that their demands would be fulfilled within a week.

Apart from the transfer of the principal, the students have demanded permanent teachers, better food, construction of school boundary wall as well as their safety.

Sources said the Dhenkanal Navodaya School Principal has been assigned additional charge of the Hadagarh school.

Earlier in the day, the irate students covering a distance of 16 km by foot had staged a roadblock at Chhenapadi Chhak on the Bhadrak-Anandpur road to press their demands.

The students alleged that the students were being served poor quality food and subjected to undemocratic attitude of the school principal.

On Monday though the students had staged a demonstration in front of the school throughout the night the school authorities did not come to them forcing them to block at Chhenapadi Chhak hampering vehicular movement in Bhadrak-Anandpur road.
