In a late night robbery, an aged woman was strangulated to death allegedly by her own relatives on Saturday night at Bhagatpur here under the Purighat police station.
While two vehicles parked in the garage were missing, police suspected more thefts in the house as two steel almirahs in two separate rooms are broken. The woman Haramani Sahoo (70) was found dead on the floor of her room with her hands and legs tied.
Police also suspected a property dispute angle to the murder as the only son of the woman has alleged that one of his sisters and her husband were staying with his mother in the same house and were constantly claiming for their share of property.
“We are trying our best to ascertain the motive behind the murder by investigating into all angles,” said city DCP Sanjiv Arora, adding that a scientific team of the police is now assisting the local police in investigation.
