Athagarh women in general are enthusiastic as the name of popular cine star Aparajita Mohanty was declared as the Congress candidate for the Cuttack lok Sabha constituency.
The Athagarh Assembly segment of the constituency has been very much neglected for the last two decades as far as the Parliamentary representation is concerned.
The conflict between local MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain and MP Bhartruhari Mahtab is the factor for which this region was not given adequate attention by Mahtab as compared to the other Assembly segments of the lS constituency.
Mahatab is available here only during elections and he avoids to be present in most of functions. Most of the youths and college students here have not seen him, but he used to get votes due to the pro-BJD wave. Most women here now feel excited about Aparajita Mohanty being announced as the candidate of a major party for the Cuttack lS seat.
