In yet another disturbing report for wildlife lovers from the Satkosia forest area in Angul district, a carcass of an elephant was found on Friday, a few days after the death of a Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) in the forest.

The carcass of an adult jumbo was recovered from the Jillinda Forest Range of Satkosia in the morning. According to reports, the carcass was spotted by locals, who later informed the Forest Department about it.

The age of the animal was assumed to be four years. However, the reason behind its death was yet to be ascertained. Forest officials, who started an investigation into the incident, said the cause of the death of the animal would be known after postmortem of the carcass.

Notably, nine days ago, RBT ‘Mahavir’ was found dead in Satkosia due to infection on its neck and multiple organ failure. The postmortem report stated that the big cat had consumed a porcupine as around eight to 10 quills of the species were recovered from the tiger’s stomach.
