PNS

The students and their leaders under the periphery of the Sambalpur University (SU) demanded 75 per cent reservation for the graduates of all the affiliated colleges seeking admission in PG classes.

They argued that other reputed universities of the country have made similar provisions for their students. And, the Sambalpur University needs to make similar provisions.

They further said that the Osmania University has 85 per cent reservation for its students.

This per cent is 50 in Brahmapur, they said.

They also put forth a list of other universities of the country who either have made the reservation provision or have the proposal on cards for their affiliated colleges.

They cited the examples of the Delhi University, the Karnatak law University and many others in the country where the facility is available.

“Hence, situated in a backward region of the State and country, the students of SU also deserve similar reservation,” said convenor of the Western Odisha Students’ Organization Deepak Ranjan Das.

They submitted a memorandum to the RDC (ND) of Sambalpur in this regard. They also warned of launching agitation if the demand is not met.
