PNS

The process for admission in the six homoeopathic and four ayurvedic colleges in the State would begin from September 20.

Secretary of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) Priyabrata Sahu said counselling for admission in these colleges would begin from September 20.

Students seeking admission would have to register their names in the OJEE website www.ojee.nic.in from September 20 to 23. Verification of documents would be held from September 25 to 27 while allotment of seats would be made on September 29.

Sources in the Directorate of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) said counselling would be held for admission for 160 seats in four Government and two private homoeopathic medical colleges.

The four Government homoeopathic colleges, Abhin Chandra Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Bhubaneswar; Utkalamani Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Rourkela; Biju Patnaik Homoeopathic Medical College, Brahmapur; and Odisha Medical College of Homoeopathy, Sambalpur, have 25 seats each while the two private colleges, Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital, Baripada and Medical College of Homoeopathy, Cuttack, have 30 seats each.

In the ayurvedic stream, admission for 120 seats in three Government and a lone private medical colleges would also be held. There are 30 seats each in the three Government colleges, Gopabandhu Ayurveda College, Puri; Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurveda College, Ankushpur (Ganjam); and Government Ayurveda College, Balangir, and the private Indira Gandhi Memorial Ayurveda College and Hospital, Bhubaneswar.

It may be mentioned that the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) had stopped admission in these homoeopathic and ayurveda colleges citing lack of adequate infrastructure and acute shortage of teaching staff. Despite this, the OJEE had conducted entrance tests for admission in these institutions in which 4,000 candidates have qualified with ranks.

On a request by the State Health Department, the CCIM has allowed admission in these institutions with a reminder to ensure necessary infrastructure and appointment of required number of teaching staffs within a year, failing which it would withdraw affiliations.
