The senior citizens, elite groups, intelligentsia and even the common people have not only expressed concern over the messy affairs in the VIMSAR at Burla, but also have decided not to tolerate the activities of the some of the doctors who have been getting salary without doing their works properly.
In a meeting convened by Sapan Mishra, a noted social activist, under the banner of Paschima Odisha People’s Forum (POPF), the eminent citizens, including Prof Aditya Prasad Padhee, Prof Sankar Prasad Pati, and Dr Rama Ballav Mishra besides many others came forward with their suggestions for smooth functioning of the VIMSAR that has virtually failed to rise up to people’s expectations.
Notably, an inquiry by Sambalpur Vigilance police in VIMSAR on Saturday on the issue of absentee doctors and those doing duty in nursing homes has further confirmed the allegation of the patients and common people as to the poor health service available here since most of the doctors are staying in Cuttack for private practice and a few others are spending most of their time in the nursing homes of Burla and Sambalpur during their official duty hour.
“No negligence to VIMSAR will be tolerated further. The citizens will also not sit silent henceforth,” the speakers in the meeting warned. They further suggested giving adequate power to the Superintendent of VIMSAR for appointment in all posts i.e. from fourth grade employee to doctors.
They further demanded to activate the newly purchased MRI machine without any further delay. It was also decided to form a group in social media like Facebook and Whatsapp for development of VIMSAR. The forum also demanded to display the names of the doctors through hoardings in prominent places of the hospitals including their duty hours and departments so that it will be easier for the people to know their presence.
It was further decided that a group of people will meet the Health Minister and the Secretary within 15 days to apprise them of the problems of the VIMSAR. They further demanded to take exemplary action against the doctors who were not present in the hospital or college during the vigilance inquiry on Saturday.
