Acid attack survivors demand rehab

PNS

Acid attack survivors in the State under the banner of the Bhubaneswar-based Institute for Social Development (ISD) and Acid Attack Survivors, Odisha Chapter, staged a demonstration at the lower PMG here on Friday demanding rehabilitation and Government jobs.

Reports said there are 52 acid attack survivors in the State, many of whom have not received any Government assistance till date.

The Supreme Court in May 2013, while hearing a case of Delhi-based acid attack survivor laxmi Agarwal, had ruled that the State Governments should grant Rs 3 lakh compensation to acid attack victims and provide free medical treatment to them, said acid attack survivor Pramodini Roul.

However, the ISD alleged many who have faced acid attack before 2013 have not received any compensation till date.

It said a letter has been sent to the Women and Child Development Department demanding rehabilitation and skill development training for acid attack survivors.
