The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday staged a demonstration here protesting against the deteriorating higher education system in the State.

Over 5,000 students from all colleges across the State participated in the protest and a memorandum of demands was submitted to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The demands included immediate provision of GIA while abolishing inequality in the salary structures of teachers and the Block Grant system, steps for filling up the vacant posts of permanent teachers, monthly provision of scholarships to SC, ST and Other Backward Class students, appointment of only prominent educationalists as vice-chancellor in universities.

Besides, the ABVP also demanded solutions to the problems of delay in result declaration and gross errors in managing examinations along with reallocation of seats as per necessary in consultation with the AICTE.

The agitation would be intensified if the Government does not immediately take the issues into consideration and make their solutions, warned ABVP State secretary Hitesh Kumar Sahoo.
