AAP slams State, Centre for poor status of farmers

PNS

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national executive member Sanjay Singh on Sunday hit out at the State and Central Governments for the poor state of affairs of the farmers in Odisha and particularly targeted the Union Government for the land acquisition Bill. “In Odessa, farmers are committing suicide due to lack of Government support to them on various issues. This is really regrettable. I urge the State Government to ensure steps for betterment of the farmers’ community,” said Singh here at a Press conference.

Coming down heavily on the Union Government for the land Acquisition Bill, Singh warned it that his party would hold a massive protest on April 22 if the Government does not address the growing anger among people against the Bill. “The party will gherao Parliament on April 22 against the land Acquisition Bill as it is anti-farmer and anti-people. Around 50,000 AAP activists from across the country will join the rally,” said Singh.

“The Central Government introduced a new Bill to replace an Ordinance which was promulgated in December last year. The Bill is awaiting clearance in the Rajya Sabha, where the Government lacks numbers. We urge the BJD and other regional parties not to support the Bill in the Upper House,” said AAP national spokesperson Nishikant Mohapatra, adding that nearly 500 AAP activists from Odessa would join the stir in Delhi. He also targeted the Odessa Government for the distress sale of paddy, loot of natural resources and love for companies. He said the party would now concentrate on a ‘one-booth, ten youth’ slogan to strengthen the party organisation in the ground level. The party leaders also submitted a memorandum to the President through the State Governor urging him to ensure withdrawal of the land Acquisition Bill.
