The Anganwadi Workers’ demonstration under the banner of the All Orissa Aganwadi Ladies Workers’ Association before the State Assembly entered its ninth day on Tuesday.

Hundreds of workers from Rayagada joined the stir pressing for fulfilment of their various demands, including status of Government employees.

The workers also demanded a hike in their minimum monthly pay to Rs 18,000 for Workers and Rs 9,000 for Helpers, a minimum pension of Rs 3,000, a revised insurance policy and its immediate implementation and other Government benefits.

Alleging the State Government is not responding to their demands, association general secretary Sumita Mahapatra threatened that all the Aganwadi Centres would remain closed until the demands are fulfilled.
