At least nine people were arrested on Friday for allegedly indulging in a group clash and subsequently attacking police officials near the Congress office in Motiganj area in the district headquarters town here.
Reports said the Congress workers were distributing blankets among the residents given by local MP and Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Srikant Jena on Thursday, when a clash occurred. While some of the residents got blankets, others did not, which led to the melee.
On being informed, police visited the spot to pacify the people. But some of them pelted stones at the police. A PCR van was damaged in the attack. Tension still prevails in the area, reports said.
