Targeted Rural Initiatives for Poverty Termination and Infrastructure (TRIPTI), a World Bank assisted project being  implemented  by the Odisha  livelihood  Mission, has made a headway in  the State. The  total utilisation  in the project  till  March last has  been around 89 per cent (Rs185.9 crore) against a target of planned expenditure of  Rs 209 crore.

At a high  level  review  meeting held under chairmanship of Chief  Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra in  the  Secretariat on Tuesday, World  Bank  Team leader for TRIPTI Samik Sundar Das mentioned  that the  expenditure in the State has shown a very  good indication of creating institutional  framework at  grassroots level.

Chief Secretary Mohapatra advised the project authorities to focus on dairy, fisheries and other farm sectors as these fields have a vast scope for creating sustainable livelihood in the coastal districts.

TRIPTI aims at enhancing the economic status of the poor and disadvantaged groups through sustainable livelihood promotions.  The project has been started in 10 districts including Angul, Baleswar,  Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsingpur, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri. Institution building and capacity enhancement at the grassroots for livelihood promotions is the principal activity of the project. Available data shows till today 8, 16, 435 households in 1,013 gram panchayats in the districts have been covered under the project.  Among them, 5, 39,302 (around 71 per cent) are poor and extremely poor vulnerable group households.  In the meanwhile, the Cluster level Forum (ClF), Gram Pachayat level Forum (GPlF) and Block level Federation   (BlF) have been made totally functional. A total of 69, 061 SHGs have been constituted and 7,154 cluster level federations have been formed.  97 per cent of the GPlFs institutions have received start up and institution building fund.  Pro Poor Inclusion Fund (PPIF) ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 at different phases has been provided to the SHGs.

A total of  15,000  farmers  in  Kharif  and 25,000  farmers in Rabi  season of 2012-13  have  been brought under 458  producer  groups  under SRI  cultivation  method.  The  crop  cutting  data  collected  from  the  fields of these  farmers  show that there has been an average  incremental yield of 7 to 8 quintals  per acre. In seed village component of the project, 834 farmers have been included and 50 producer groups have been formed.  These groups have produced 4,500 quintal of seeds.  Some new initiatives approved to be taken up under the project are Mo Badi, Nutritional Cluster and Community learning Centre, said sources.
