8-yr-old girl raped in Angul; 2 detained

PNS

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified miscreant and rescued in an unconscious condition from a garbage dump near the Aahar centre in the town on Sunday.

The victim was sleeping with her family members on the verandah of a shop near the Angul bus-stand when the bike-borne miscreant abducted her. Shortly later, the man raped the girl and threw her near the garbage dump. It was suspected that the accused also tried to kill the girl after raping her.

The matter came to light after the family members found the girl missing and launched a search operation in the morning. Later, they found her lying unconscious near the bus terminal and informed police about it.

The minor girl was subsequently rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The girl sustained multiple injuries in her body and was stated to be in a critical condition.

Following the incident, senior police officials, including Northern Central Range DIG Narasingha Bhol and the Angul SP, rushed to the spot for investigation.

“The girl is admitted to the DHH. Though her health condition is stable, she is not in a position to talk. We have begun an investigation basing on the information the girl initially gave us after she was rescued. The SP is himself monitoring the case; and we hope the accused would be arrested soon,” said Bhol.

Bhol further informed that the accused would be nabbed soon as they have got some vital leads in the case.

Two suspects were detained in connection with the incident.
