Eight persons, including five children, were injured in a stampede during the Rath Yatra at the Rankanath Deva temple here on Saturday.
Sources said some youths created a certain rumour that caused the stampede during pulling of lord Jagannath’s Rath towards the Maausima temple.
While thousands of devotees had gathered at the ground to have darshan of the lords on their Cars, the weak police arrangement could not stop then running hither and thither, alleged some locals.
However, the three chariots reached the Maausima temple on time.
Pulling of Raths had begun after the Rajguru of Parikund conducted Chhera Panhara on behalf of Parikud King Santosh Mohan Dev, who was absent.
