Police arrested seven persons on Friday night on the charge of ransacking a licensed foreign liquor shop at Krushnapada village under the Kuakhia police station in Jajpur district.

“On Wednesday, many locals had ransacked the foreign liquor shop and attacked the shop’s owner and employees, for which seven villagers were arrested. We are raiding the hideouts of all accused persons to arrest them,” said Kuakhia PS IIC Manoj Swain. Earlier, liquor shop owner Ajay Rath had filed an FIR in the police station and alleged that around 60 persons attacked him and damaged the shop. A village woman said, “We had earlier submitted memorandums to the district Collector, SP and excise officials many times to stop sale of liquor in our village. But authorities did not pay any heed to our pleas, for which many locals, mostly women, ransacked shop. We don’t want alcohol; we want water.”
