The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Students’ Union of Berhampur University in association with the Diabetes and Endocare Clinic organised a workshop on diabetes at the Biju Patnaik Auditorium here on Monday. Brahmapur SP Ashish Singh inaugurated the blood sugar testing campaign for teaching and non teaching staff and students of Bhanja Vihar.
University Vice-Chancellor Dr Deepak Behera presided over the meet. Diabetes specialist Dr Sunil Kumar Kota from the Diabetes and Endocare Clinic was present as the chief guest. He explained causes, prevention and treatment of the disease.
“Now, 70 million people of India are suffering from diabetes. Physical and mental stress of today’s life put everyone at more risk of developing lifestyle related disorders,” said Dr Kota. He called upon the audience to undergo annual testing for blood sugars, cholesterol and blood pressure starting from 40 years of age.
Apart from proper diet control and regular exercise, diabetic patients should take medicines regularly and do periodic testing, he advised.
