Members of the All Odisha 662 (+2, +3) Non-Government lectures and Employees’Association on Monday staged a massive rally in front of the State Assembly here demanding full grant-in-aid (GIA) along with all Government facilities to them.

Thousands of teachers and college employees came in a procession starting from Master Canteen Square to the lower PMG, where they staged a demonstration protesting the State Government’s apathetic attitude in fulfilling their demands.

They also demanded GIA for teachers and employees whom the State Government didn’t include in the 2008 Government order and hike in retirement age from 60 to 62.

Association president Golak Nayak said they have been demanding implementation of common grant-in-aid policy for all teachers and employees of colleges, but the Government has sought to befool them by changing the 1969 Act of the Higher Education Department.

“If the Government doesn’t take appropriate steps in time, we will intensify our agitation and take our movement to its logical end,” said Nayak and threatened that they would boycott evaluation of examination papers of Plus II and III classes.
