The Mohana police in Gajapati district seized ganja worth over Rs 40 lakh while being transported in a truck at Chandiput on Thursday.The police also arrested six persons, including four from Haryana and seized the truck and a motorcycle.
The arrested were identified as Vinod Sharma, Jayapal Singh, Suresh Kasyap and Ram of Haryana and Manoaj Veer and Sukant Majhi of the Chandragiri area in the district. The seized ganja kept in 21 big plastic bags weighed 610.7 kg.
They were carrying the contraband item from the Mohan area to Haryana, informed IIC Sujit Kumar Nayak.In another such incident, the Puri police aksi seized 33 kg of ganja and arrested three persons from the town on Wednesday. The police also seized six mobile phones and Rs 4,343 from them.
The arrested include an octogenarian, who is suspected to old trader of the contraband item.
They have been identified as Jaganath Panda (81) and his son Sarat of Swetaganga Lane and Laxminarayan Nanda of Matimandap Sahi in the town.
