With the help of Andhra Pradesh police, organisations like Itabhati Mazdoor Union, Shramik Adhikar Manch and Prayas rescued 60 migrant labourers from a brick kiln at Kaplapalli of Medak district in Andhra Pradesh, official sources said on Thursday.

According to reports, middlemen of Nuapada and Balangir district had handed over the labourers to brick kiln owner Dasuram Reddy of Medak, a few months back. They comprised 37 labourers from Dabri and Chanabed villages under Khariar block in Nuapada district and 23 from Mudkani and Badadhokla villages under Turekela block in Balanagir district.

As the labourers were not getting proper wage and were engaged in work for more than 12-hour a day, they had told about their plight to some activists of Balangir district and sought their rescue. After getting phone call from the labourers about the torture, the local NGOs along with activists from Odisha rescued the labourers from the brick kiln.

Out of the total rescued labourers, 21 were females and 20 were males, while the rest were children, said sources.
