Five students and an Anganwadi Worker were injured when a concrete slab fell from the roof at Jillimunda Anganwadi Centre of Pedipathar panchayat under Athmallik block in Angul district on Wednesday.
As many as 23 students were present in the class when the mishap occurred.. The injured students were shifted to the Thakurgarh hospital by the locals. The Anganwadi Worker who was critically injured was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital.
The injured students were identified as Ananya Behera, Karan Sahu, Tapaswini Behera, Sairam Sahu,Milan Sahu, Shubham Bhoi , The Anganwadi Worker was Shubhasini Rana.
The Anganwadi Centre is in a dilapidated condition for a long time. The block administration was approached number of times for construction of a new building but step was taken. The local Sarpanch Bharat Sahu was also apprised about the incident. Locals alleged that the mishap occurred due to the negligence of Athmallik BDO.
However, the school administration said that no student but an Anganwadi Worker was injured in the incident. Efforts are being made to construct a new building.
