PNS

The Commissionerate police on Friday arrested six touts, including four ambulance drivers, on the charge of diverting patients from the SCB Medical College Hospital to private hospitals here.

Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed that the Mangalabag police arrested two staffs of the SCB and four ambulance drivers for sending patients visiting the Government-run hospital to private facilities.Several other medical staffs and doctors are suspected to be involved in the racket. Stern action would be taken against them at the earliest as per law, the DCP added.

Earlier, particularly  in 2019, allegations used to frequently surface that middlemen were sending patients coming to Government hospitals like the SCB and the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar to several private hospitals to get commission. Following the allegations, police kept a strict vigil on activities of such brokers and conducted crackdowns to arrest them.
