The Sambalpur police on Thursday arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in tender fixing and crimes of other nature.

These six were identified as Sandeep Khandelwala (28), Anand Nath (32), Sk Mujibuddhin, Md Sarif (39), Saddam Husain (25) and Kunjabihari Kumbhar alias Bulu (27). All these youths are from Sambalpur town, informed SP Akhileswar Singh.

At the same time, the police also seized one nine mm mouser, two numbers of 7.62 mousers, two revolvers, two single shots and one double barrel country made fire arm and 14 live ammunitions from their possession, Singh said.

Six individual cases have been registered against them and they have been forwarded to court, the SP added.

“We had been keeping close watch on these persons and their criminal activities. Finally, we arrested them,” the SP.

The SP further said that a good number of cases under grievous sections of IPC like 307 are also pending against these persons under different police stations of Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts.

“Earlier we were focusing on Rengali industrial area. Now, we are concentrating on Sambalpur and Hirakud with a special squad with the help of the SDPO of Sambalpur BN Gagarin Mohanty and three inspectors in charge (IICs) of Sambalpur town,” the SP informed.

He further said that these persons were also partners in crime of Karan Singh of Jharsuguda who has been arrested recently by police there and also late Raju Saha who died in police encounter in the year 2014 near Hirakud.

But the police were tight lipped on their political nexus although all these persons actively worked under a national political party.
