The bandh call given by Dhenkanal Bar Association, BJP and Enzen Hatao Steering Committee passed off peacefully on Wednesday in Dhenkanal. Shops, schools, colleges and banks were closed in Dhenkanal town, Kamakshyanagar, Hindol road and Gudia Kateni Chhak.
The bandh call, however, didn’t evoke any response at Hindol, Bhuban and Parjang.As many as 40 agitators were detained in Dhenkanal town and 12 were arrested at Gudia Kateni Chhak including former Rajya Sabha member Rudra Narayan Pany.
Bar president Naba Kishore Guru alleged that the district administration had assured not to allow Enzen employees for metre reading and collection of electricity bills from customers, but it has deviated from its commitment.
