The State Government would re-appoint around 500 retired Sub-Inspectors of Police very soon, said Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik here on Thursday.

“I have given a proposal in this regard to the State Government. The Government has approved it,” Marik told reporters here, adding, “The maximum age limit of such retired police officers will be 60 years and they will work till attaining 62 years of age.”

The retired police persons would get their last salary drawn as the monthly payment and the new payment would be made after deduction of the monthly pensions, the DGP stated.

“The move is aimed at solving large-scale vacancies of the police personnel in the State,” Marik said, adding that around 47 per cent of sanctioned SI posts in the State were lying vacant. Marik also appreciated the senior officials of the Southern Range of the Odisha Police for successfully leading an operation to nab top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda.

Marik said that he has an agenda for the Southern Range’s Brahmapur police district and that would be implemented by September-end. He emphasised on crime control in the region by increasing man power.

Marik said the Commissionerate Police system would be introduced in the city very soon. The system would revitalise the standard of traffic system, night patrolling and basic policing, he added.
