The Paradip police arrested five thieves and seized 5 tonnes of cable from them. The theft had taken place at JM Boxi Camp, a Paradip Port Trust (PPT) prohibited area.
Sources said that a truck bearing No OR01 - F - 9765 loaded 5 tonnes high cost cable without any valid papers. The police had lodged a case after getting a complaint.
The arrested were identified as Kalia Khaji, Panday Champia, Dhanu Singh, Madhab Singh and Ganesh Tudu.
Now the question is how a truck lifted the cable and managed to flee from the highly guarded area of PPT management where CISF personnel stand guard round the clock. All the entrance and exit gates are under the glare of CCTV cameras.
