In view of the rapidly rising Covid-19 positive cases in Ganjam district, the Collector on Tuesday announced shutdown in all urban areas of the district for five days to break the chain of the virus transmission.

The shutdown would remain in force from July 9 to 13.

During the shutdown, door-to-door health screening would be conducted in all NACs, Hinjilicut Municipality, all block headquarters and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) areas. A total of 100 teams have been formed with a doctor in each team to carry out the screening, informed Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

However, the health, goods and agriculture services would remain unaffected during the shutdown.

Notably, this southern district has reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the State. The total number of positive cases in Ganjam now stands at 2621, including 1205 active ones. Ganjam has also reported the highest number of deaths as 24 Covid-19 patients have so far succumbed to the virus in the district while another died due to other health complications.
