Though a sewerage plant project work in Rourkela was to be completed in three years but it lies unfinished even after passage of four years while the contractor company is all set to leave the project work midway.
The principal contractor L&T has reportedly got the clearance certificate from the Rourkela Sewerage Board to leave the project.
In this regard a delegation of the Rourkela District Congress Committee (RDCC) under the leadership of its president George Tirkey rushed to the office of Rourkela Sewerage Board office and sought to know the status. According to RDCC besides Rourkela Main Road, in many areas of Chhend Colony and Basanti Colony the sewerage pipes were not yet laid.
The delegation was trying to know the reason for which the pipes were not spread between Tarini Mandira and Raghunathpalli Police Station and between STI Chowk and Birajapalli overbridge of Panposh-Uditnagar main road but could not get any satisfactory reply.
The RDCC said the Rourkela Smart City Limited has already improvised the road spending crores of rupees recently. In this condition if the pipes are spread underground now then who would bear the expenses to be caused due to road damage, it asked. Similarly, the delegation wanted to know if there was no coordination between the Rourkela Smart City Limited and the Rourkela Sewerage Board Authority.
Similarly, from the north side of Chhend VSS Market to BSNL Chowk and near the Basanti Colony Water Tank road, the pipes were not yet spread. The delegation wanted to know its reason. The Sewerage Board failed to give any satisfactory reply to the RDCC.
The delegation further alleged that in many other places including Basanti Colony, Industrial Estate, Chhend and Panposh, pipe laying works were not fully completed. In many areas the branch pipe lines were not connected with main pipe lines.
While the RDCC submitted a memorandum to the Rourkela Sewerage Board Authority in this regard, its copy has forwarded to the district Collector, Sundargarh and Commissioner, Rourkela Municipal Corporation.
The party alleged that an uncompleted project was inaugurated by the Chief Minister in February for grabbing eyeballs. The Congress also warned of launching a protest against the Sewerage Board and L&T if the project is not completed in toto.
Among others, former RDCC president Biren Senapati, Joseph Tirkey, Ramananda Srichandan, Sabir Hussen and many more Congress leaders were present.
