Tragedy struck Kalajamuna village under the Rambha police limits in Ganjam district on Monday when four children died after a mud wall collapsed on them, killing three on the spot.
The four children, including two girls, were playing near an under-construction kuccha house when the mud wall caved in. While three juveniles died on the spot, the fourth victim succumbed to the injuries at the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahmapur.
The monsoon rains in the past few days reportedly weakened the earthen structure of the house, resulting in the disaster.
The deceased were identified as Shrabani Mallick, Nandini Mallick, Sanjib Sahu and Seshadev Mallick.
In a separate incident on the day, two boys drowned in a pond at Jagabandhu Nagar in Brahmapur city. Family members said the boys were missing since Sunday afternoon.
Bodies of both the boys were fished out by local people with the help of fire brigade. The incident happened during the immersion ceremony of lord Ganesh on Sunday, sources said.
