District Magistrates (DMs) of four districts would attend a meeting to review the progress of Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) subsidy programme, which is going to be held in New Delhi on Monday.

The Central Government has called the district magistrates of all the 121 targeted districts to discuss regarding smooth operation of the programme and detect the technical glitches of the operation of the scheme.

At the meeting, feedback would be sought from the DMs, particularly of 43 districts, where the scheme is operational since January 1, while DMs of other 78 districts, where the scheme is to be rolled out on July 1, are expected to report the progress made for its launch.

The meeting to review the progress of DBT, a flagship programme of the UPA Government for the next lok Sabha polls, would be addressed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

From Odisha, four districts including Balangir, Sonepur, Puri and Cuttack are included for the second phase of DBT, which is going to be operational from June 1. The meeting has been convened to ensure ‘glitch-free’ implementation of the programme which is expected to cover one-fifth of the country, the sources said.
