In a violent incident, four brothers were killed at Pitola Square in Narendrapur panchayat under the Hinjilicut police station in Ganjam district late on Tuesday night.

The incident was fallout of a petty issue involving lewd remarks with two groups clashing with each other near a fast food shop owned by one Sambhu Swain (25). Swain’s two siblings Raja Swain (28) and Pandav Swain (23) and their minor cousin brother Chandan (16) were assisting him to run the shop.

Police said one Sadhu Swain of Ramachandrapur village, who was earlier involved in various criminal cases in the past, had a violent altercation with these four brothers and attacked them with sharp weapons after Sambhu made an obscene comment on Sadhu.

A few minutes before the clash, a couple had slipped from their vehicle in the road and Sadhu volunteered to help them get up. Sadhu’s act drew sarcastic remarks by his rivals.

While Sadhu was also seriously injured in the clash and admitted to a hospital, his three accomplices Srikant, Ganesh and Santosh were detained by police.

The violent clash between the two groups led to killing of four persons, three brothers Sambhu, Raja, Pandav, and their minor cousin Chandan. All four who were taken to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here, where they were declared brought dead.

Local people on Wednesday protested against the ghastly incident and staged a demonstration at NH-59 demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Roy rushed to the spot and took stock of the incident and assured the public and the concerned family members of immediate action.
