About 38,859 landless persons in Dhenkanal district got 3,218 acres homestead land due to continuous agitation by the Bhumihina Praja Samiti.
The district administration revealed that 16,361 landless of Kamakhyanagar tehsil got 940.04 acres of homestead land, 3,115 landless of Bhuban tehsil got 124.60 acres, 6,274 persons of Dhenkanal tehsil got 250.96 acres, 5,204 of Gondia tehsil got 218.96 acres, 1,360 of Kankadahad got 54.40 acres, 1,625 of Parjang got 104.24 acres, 398 of Odapada got 18.22 acres and 4,522 landless of Hindol tehsil got 1,507.54 acres.
Notably, Hota had taken up the issue of the landless with NHRC Chairperson Hl Dattu and members Murugeson and Sarat Chandra Sinha.
Meanwhile, Hota referring to a decision of the State Cabinet on August 8 said the Government had decided to provide land to the landless people living in the urban areas. But, till date not a single landless of Kamakhyanagar, Bhuban, Hindol and Dhenkanal urban belt have got any land. Hota warned of intensifying an agitation if the problems of the urban landless were not addressed soon.
