The Utkal University (UU) has a total of 398 acres of land, out of which 35 acres has been encroached by private persons on three sides.
Higher Education Minister Anant Das informed this in response to a question of BJD MlA Bhagirathi Badajena in the State Assembly on Thursday.
While 18 acres on the east side of the university have been encroached, seven acres along the National Highway and 10 acres on the north side have been intruded, the Minister said.
The Minister further informed that the UU authorities have filed cases in courts to free the lands from encroachment. Besides, on behalf of the Higher Education Department, the Commissionerate police, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and the GA Department have been requested to evict encroaches from the lands.
