Out of 893 sanctioned teaching posts in the three medical colleges, 287 posts (32 per cent of the total) are now lying vacant.
This was revealed from the information submitted in the State Assembly by Health Minister Pratap Jena in response to a question of Congress MlA Dr Prafulla Majhi on Thursday.
While the SCB Medical College has a total of 393 teaching posts, 108 posts are lying vacant. Similarly, 75 out of 254 posts in MKCG Medical College and 104 out of 246 in VIMSAR, Burla are vacant.
The Minister informed that steps are being taken to fill up the vacant posts through promotion and OPSC.
Regarding new medical colleges, the Minister said required number of doctors have been recruited through promotion, transfer and OPSC as per the MCI norms.
