In a tragic incident, three schoolstudents, including a girl, and an auto driver were killed after an auto rickshaw and a tipper collided head- on nearSwayamba under K Balang police limits under Bonei sub divisionon Friday.
At least, 10 school students who were boarding the auto sustained injuries.
The deceased students were identified as Anup Munda (5), Ranjit Munda (8) and Sunami Munda (6). Thedeceased auto driver was identified as Sukram Munda (25).
Soon after the mishap, hundreds of locals staged a road blockade, demanding compensation for thedeceased school students and arrest of the tipper driver.
The Maxima auto rickshaw (OR-14G-3332) carrying 13 school students of St John English Medium Schoolunder K Balang police limit was going to drop the studentsnear their residences when it met with the accident.
Of the ten injured, three, in critical condition, have been sent to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH), Rourkela. The rest are in the lahunipadahealth centre.
After the accident, the driver of the tipper fled the spot.
Getting information, a K Balang police team reached the spot and seized both thevehicles.
Following the tragic incident, tension prevailed on the spot as irate locals staged a road blockade keeping the bodies and demanding Rs 4 lakh to kin of each deceased student. They also demanded immediate arrest of the tipper driver.
The police and local authorities were holding talks with the agitators to lift the blockade when the report was being filed last.
