Acting tough on the students involved in the recent ragging, the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) authorities have initiated disciplinary action against 15 students.

According to OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoranjan Kar, out of the total 15 students against whom the allegation of ragging was levelled by junior students of the College of Forestry, three students were rusticated for one year.

“Of the total 15 students, five have been rusticated from university for one year and two have been rusticated from hostel for one year. Five other students have been fined of `5,000 each and will remain under conduct probation while the rest five will be kept under conduct probation only,” said Kar.

The action was initiated after the Academic Council of the university gave its nod.

Notably, First Year students of College of Forestry were subjected to ragging by their seniors. The victim students and their parents brought the issue before the university authorities and even filed an FIR against the seniors at the Khandagiri police station seeking action.

The victim students alleged that they were beaten up by their seniors brutally without any reason.
