Three minor girls were gang-raped in three separate incidents in Sundargarh district. While body of a victim girl was recovered in half-naked condition on Monday evening in an abandoned area, the other two victim girls underwent medical tests on Tuesday.

According to sources, at about 11 am on July 20 (Saturday),  a minor girl (15 years) of Gopalpur area reportedly had gone to a local river with a bucket to take bath and clean her cloths, but had not returned. The family members had searched for her but in vain.

On Monday afternoon, her family members lodged a missing report in Hemgiri police station. But later in the evening, they located the body of the girl near a river.

On the information of the family members, a police team from Hemigiri police station, under the leadership of IIC Sradhanjali Subudhi, along with a scientific team reached the spot and started an investigation.

Significantly, the body was lying half naked. Her shoes and the bucket, she had carried from home, were also lying in a nearby area. Police suspect this as a rape and murder case.

“After registering an unnatural death case, we conducted post mortem of the body on Tuesday,” said Hemgiri police station IIC Sradhanjali Subudhi.

In another incident, a 17-year-old girl under Biramitrapur police station limits was gang-raped on July 8. The family members of the victim girl lodged a complaint in Birmitrapur police station on Monday evening, only after the rape act video went viral.

Significantly, about seven miscreants had raped the victim minor girl at Harpali forest area, one after another and had recorded their act in their cell phone.

“After registering a case and investigating into the matter, we  have detained two minor boys who were present on the spot,” said Biramitrapur SDPO PK Patra.

In yet another incident, a 16- year-old girl of Rajgangpur area was also raped by two persons on Saturday last, when she was returning from her stitching training class. According to a complaint filed in Rajgangpur police station on Monday, one Ramesh Ekka, who knows the minor girl, had reportedly offered her a lift, when she was returning home. Ramesh and his aide who was also pillion riding along with the girl instead of dropping her at home, had taken her to a secluded location. Mukesh after leaving Ramesh and the minor girl there, had come with the bike.

The victim girl, after reaching home next day morning, narrated about her trauma.

On a complaint filed by her family members, police nabbed accused Ramesh first and later his associate Mukesh.

“After registering a case, we have arrested both the accused on Tuesday,” said Rajgangpur police station IIC GN Sahu.
