Puri SP Asish Kumar Singh inaugurated three marine police stations along the seacoast in the district on Friday. The marine police stations are located at Arakhakuda near the Chilika lake under Brahmagiri block, Ramchandi near Chandrabhaga (Konark) and Nuagarh in Astarang.
It appeared that the police stations were established hurriedly as they are yet to have speedboats and the required numbers of trained staffs to check infiltration of drug mafias or terrorists to the land via sea. Since the coastline is sparsely populated and covered with dense forests, there is every possibility of infiltration of drug mafias and terrorists.
The marine police stations also do not have their own buildings. While the Ramchandi marine police station is established in the campus of the regular Ramchandi police station, the Arakhakuda marine police station is placed as an additional duty of the Brahmagiri regular police station.
SP Singh said these arrangements are temporary and soon all the three marine police stations would have their own buildings and other facilities like trained personnel and speedboats to keep a close vigil on activities on sea.
