In an explosion at the highly-sensitive Badmal ordnance factory in the district on Friday, at least three employees were severely injured.
Though the exact reason behind the explosion was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the mishap occurred during testing of arms and ammunitions at the factory’s unit No-15 between 11 am and 11:30 am. However, as the factory under the Defence Ministry is a prohibited area, the incident came to light at around 3.30 pm.
The three injured were identified as Junior Works Managers Devi Niranjan Rout, Pradip Sahu and Sauri Narayan Pandya, who were shifted to the VIMSAR in Burla and their condition was said to be still critical, sources said.
