The Golanthara police have arrested three accused persons involved in the loot and assault of commuters and police on National Highway 16 near Konishi Dhaba late on Saturday night. The arrestees were identified as Sarania Kumar Padhy, Rabinaryan Padhi and Runa Kumar Sahu. Later, the trio was forwarded to court. Police have seized a Scooty, Rs 6,000 cash, gold rings and lethal weapons like choppers, swords and lathis from the possession of the accused. However, two looters involved in the incident are still on the run.
Sources said the five miscreants on the fateful day were intercepting commuters and looting them of their valuables by brandishing lethal weapons. Golanthara PS IIC Basant Kumar Sethi, who was going home in his car, was also stopped by the miscreants. When Sethi gave his identity, the miscreants instead of being afraid attacked him with a sword. But he had a narrow escape. Getting information the Goasani Nuagaon police and Golatnthara police rushed to the spot and managed to overpower three of the miscreants.
