The Baidyanathpur police arrested three persons involved in misappropriation and black-marketing of relief rice meant for Phailin and flood victims of Brahmapur on Sunday.

The three miscreants, including a local businessman, had taken away relief rice from the control dealer of Palur Bunglow and removed 25 kg from each of the 28 bags to sell at a higher price in black market. When they were taking the rice in an auto, the police on a tip-off arrested them and seized the vehicle.

The miscreants were identified as Suresh Kumar (34) of Tulasinagar and J Nageswar Rao and Ashoak Behera of Gandhinagar. The Control dealer has been absconded.

There is a strong public perception against the inaction of the Government as complete restoration of power supply in the city is atill far from reality. Even 15 long days after the Phailin, restoration of power has been made only in 60 per cent of the areas.

Besides, a majority of BMC drains of slum areas and interior streets which got choked since the Phialin are yet to be cleaned by the BMC. Except the main roads, most of the branch roads are still full of garbage, making the roads breeding grounds of mosquitoes.

Most of the corporators do not dare to come to the streets to take the stock of relief required and to share the residents’ sufferings.Skyrocketing of the prices of essential commodities and vegetables has made them beyond the reach of common people.
