In a tragic incident, three persons died of asphyxiation and another became critical while they were working in a latrine tank in a village under Goshani block in Gajapati district on Saturday.
According to information, the incident occurred in Poduni village, six km from here. Owner Hari Behera and mason Mina Beher had entered into the seven-foot deep latrine tank through a narrow passage to open a ring. As they felt suffocated and cried for help, Mina’s brother Prasad and ChandraSkehar Guru of neighbourin Andhra Pradesh’s Purunapatna village went into the tank to rescue them. As they didn’t come out, villagers broke open the tank’s wall and brought out all four. However, Hari, Mina and Prasad died due to asphyxiation. Chandrasekhar has been admitted in a hospital at Srikakulam in a critical condition.
