The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch (CB) on Saturday arrested three persons of a family on the charge of fraudulently possessing 113 acres of Government land worth crores of rupees in Munduli mouza under Barang teshil. Dhananjay Mohapatra, Suryanarayan Mohaptra and Jagannath Mohapatra of Cuttack were later forwarded to court.

According to CB DIG Rajesh Kumar, the General Administration (GA) Department in 2012 had intimated the CB to probe a case relating to the fraudulent possession of 113 acres of Government land in Munduli.

During the investigation, it was learnt that one Ramadevi of Cuttack, who is now dead, had filed a case in the office of the Joint Commissioner of land Consolidation and Settlement in Cuttack claiming that the 113 acres of land belonged to her as she had been paying the rents for it since 1947, besides producing fake documents.

The Joint Commissioner forwarded the case to the Barang Teshildar, who in 2009 disallowed the claim of Ramadevi and maintained that the land was possessed in fraudulent manner. It too subsequently intimated the GA Department for further action.

“During the process of investigation by the GA and Barang teshil Ramadevi’s three sons Dhananjay, Suryanarayan and Jagannath along with one Udaya Kumar Nanda, proprietor of Durga Developers, planned to sell the land through plotting,” said the DIG.

“After verifying all documents given to us by the GA Department, we traced the irregularities in the possession of the land and arrested the three brothers today,” added the DIG.
