29-yr-old woman detained in religious institution

KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA

The mother of a 29-year-old woman has been desperately trying to meet her daughter at a particular religious institution for last one year and wanted her daughter to come home but in vain.

The victim's mother and grandmother alleged that the religious  institution wasn't allowing their girl to meet her parents. However, it is allowing the girl talk with her mother only from a distance.

They further alleged that even though their daughter wants to come back home, but the religious institution didn't let her do so.

Sources also said that a month back the mother and the maternal grandmother of the girl had lodged a complaint before  the Superintendent of Police at Brahmapur. Based on the complaint the Town Police investigated the matter and said to have been  submitted its report.

Since the family could not get back their daughter to home, the girl’s maternal grandmother S Shyama reportedly lodged a verbal complaint in the office of the Brahmapur MLA Bikram Panda recently and sought his intervention in the matter.

Notably, the victim after completing her studies in  Charted Accounting  from Hyderabad 1.5 years back had returned to her parental home at Brahmapur and thereafter, undergone head surgery reportedly  owing to some problems in brain.

The girl went to the religious institution located near Tangi under Khurda district in March 2021 and since then she  did not return home. Sources also said that, the father and mother of the girl maintained distance from each other probably arising out of domestic conflict for which the girl was staying with her mother since last few years. The girls’ maternal mother Shyama alleged that as the victim girl was not allowed to return home, her mother was in state of great distress and mental trauma.

Police sources, however, said that, the girl is quite matured and only if it is proved that the girl has been forcefully detained by the religious institution and is willing to come back home, then Police could go to the spot and rescue the girl.
