Though the State Government has targeted to collect more than 4.5 lakh tonne of paddy from farmers of Bargarh district during the current Rabi season, yet various problems, including faulty P PAS, has hindered the procurement process.

While 3.5 lakh packets of paddy have been lifted from the market yards under Bargarh and Attabira RMCs, 2.5 lakh packets are still to be procured.

The paddy is being procured by Civil Supplies Department, Markfed and Nafed, as per the Government decision.

Meanwhile, some farmers have alleged that though paddy was purchased through P-PAS( Pay- Procurement Autonomous System), yet they faced problems as their names were not found in the system.

"Though we have already stored paddy in yard since May 1, yet the crop has not been procured due to wrong P PAS," they alleged.

A farmer got two different P PAS in two days. While a P PAS record mentioned that the farmer has 6 acres of land, another stated that he grew paddy in 5.66 acres.

Many farmers led by the Fight for Right's Debabrata Mishra gheraoed the SCO office here on Saturday. They demanded that the district administration take necessary action against Civil Supplies officers for the wrong doings.
