The sheep rearers are in panic following the killing of as many as 25 sheep by an unidentified predator at Kumursingha village under Birmaharajpur block in Subarnapur district on Monday night.

Reports said villagers woke up on Tuesday morning to find the sheep dead with their intestines missing. While some carcasses were found in a cattle shed of the sheep farmer, many were found in the village street.

Villagers believed that the animal might have killed the sheep in the sheds and dragged them to the village street.

After getting information, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. The carcasses were seized and a probe was initiated.

The repeat of the mysterious animal attack after a brief gap has once again spread fear among the sheep farmers. The farmers have demanded that the Government provide compensation to them for the dead animals.

Earlier, mysterious predators had triggered panic in the Niali area of Cuttack district by frequently targeting sheep.
