A 22-year-old woman was arrested and forwarded to court on Sunday for allegedly torturing her husband and provoking him to commit suicide on Friday at Telendih under the Sundargarh Sadar police station.
Debasis Kumbhar (28), a resident of Kurda village under the Sadar police station, had married Suna Dei, daughter of Dileswar Tandia of Khamarbahal village under Bhashma police station in Sundargarh two years back.Suna, a school peon, was residing in a quarter at Telendih along with her daughter. Debasis, a primary school teacher, was visiting her family on holidays. As per an FIR lodged by Debasis’s brother Prakash Kumbhar, Suna used to quarrel with his brother and threaten to kill him.
On Saturday, thousands of villagers gheraoed Suna and her father Dileswar demanding her arrest. On being informed, SDPO Sadar Prasant Kumar Mohanty and Sadar police station IIC Itishree Das rushed to the spot and arrested Suna. The body has been sent for autopsy, said IIC Das.
