Regular jobs for Go-Mitras demanded
Bhubaneswar: The State Go-Mitra Mahasangha has demanded permanent appointment of the low-paid workers in the Directorate of Fisheries and Animal Resources. Mahasangha president Prafulla Kumar Behera and secretary Ashok Kumar Nayak told reporters here that on May12, a notification was published on appointment of the workers as attendants. A committee under the district Collectors would approve that. The Finance Department also generated 753 attendant posts two months before. But the progress is slow in this regard. The Mahasangha demanded hastening the appointment process within 15 days or else its members would resort to agitation.
Gop welcomes new Puri Congress chief
Nimapara: The newly-appointed Puri District Congress Committee president Satyabrata (Ramu) Patra was given a rousing welcome on his visit to Gop block on Friday. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters along with prominent members like Smruti Prakash Nanda, Ashwini Pattnaik, Butu Sahoo, Kailash Nayak, Jyotiranjan Mishra, Samir Samantra took out a bike rally from Haripur to Gop via Nimapara and Charichhak to welcome their leader.
Brahmapur businessman dies
Brahmapur: Well-known businessman Devi Prasad Das (52) died after a short illness on Thursday. He was under treatment for a few days. On Thursday, he suddenly felt uneasy and was rushed to MKCG Medical College Hospital here, where doctors declared him brought dead. In a huge procession, his body was taken to the Puri Swargadwar for funeral.
Kandhamal police ASI gets 4-yr jail
Phulbani: Phulbani Vigilance Judge Biranchi Narayan Mishra on Friday awarded a four-year imprisonment to Kandhamal district’s Raikia PS ASI laxman Mallik after convicting him in bribe case. The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him on default of which he would undergo six months more imprisonment concurrently. Mallick had on September 29, 2015 taken bribe of Rs 15,000 from Hari Nayak of Tikabali for releasing his vehicle that had met with an accident at Karada Ghat. At that time, he was posted at the G Udayagiri PS.
