Mayurbhanj PEO held taking bribe
Baleswar: A Panchyat Executive Officer (PEO) of Mayurbhanj district was arrested on Tuesday by Vigilance sleuths after being caught red-handed while taking a bribe of `4,000 from an IAY beneficiary. The accused Ekadasi Pradhan of Dhangiri GP under Saroskana block was taking the bribe from one lalmohan Dhar.
Panchudola, Holi celebrated peacefully in A’garh
Athagarh: The Panchudola Yatra and Holi Utsav were organised with much pump and gaiety in Athagarh from Monday for two days. As many as 60 Dola Bimans (palanquins) of lord Krishna and Radha were assembled at the Jhulan ground here from different gram panchayats. Hundreds of temporary shops were opened in the field. Cultural programmes were also held. People played Holi with herbal colours on the occasion. As per the tradition, the people here play Holi on the day after Pancudola. The Athagarh Sahitya Samaj also organised Holi Utsav. Writer Baishnav Charan Samal spoke on the Sringara Rasa of Radha-Krishna.
Traditional art showcased at Anandapur Mahotsav
Anandapur: The Anandapur Mahotsav is underway here showcasing various traditional art and dance forms of the locality. The festival, beginning fromSunday, was inaugurated by Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra in the presence of Culture Minister Ashok Panda, MP Shakuntala laguri and Mahotsav committee chairman Maheswar Swain. Performances including, Khanjani Bhajan, Daskathia, Kendara Gita, Palla, Ghumura Nacha were performed by artistes on the first day enthralling the audience. Intellectuals present on the occasion opined that the art and culture of Anandapur as well as Keonjhar district could be strengthened if the State Government and the district administration evince interest to promote them.
Vijaya Bank opens first branch in Bhadrak dist
Bhadrak: The Vijaya Bank opened its first branch in Bhadrak district on Monday which was inaugurated by Project Director, District Rural Development Agency Sanat Mohanty. The branch opened near Bonta Square is the 25 branch of the bank in the State. Siddheswar Patra and Chintamani Oram were among the senior bank officials present.
