Rutuparna enters Super Series Tennis final
Bhubaneswar: Rutuparna Choudhury would meet Richa chougle of Maharashtra in the U-16 girls final of the MSlTA Yonex Sunrise Super Series Tennis Tournament at Pune on Friday. In the semifinal on Thursday, Rutuparna edged out Riya Ubveja of Punjab 6-4,7-5.Previously in quarter final Riya Ubveja beat the top seed of the tournament Sanya Singh .
Mass Chess Awareness held
Bhubaneswar: Around 1500 students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur take part in a Mass Chess Awareness Programme to sensitize the students about the game in the school premises on Thursday. In the present scenario many young kids of our State dominating the national chess. Particularly, Saina Salonika, Smaraki Mohanty, Shreya Smruti Mohanty, Yashita Rout, Anisha Mishra and many more were won different age group titles. Eyeing the success of these players many students of our State want to make chess as career.
Women Grand Master and Alumni of the school Padmini Rout encouraged the participants with useful tips. Recently, Padmini grabbed the national women chess. Her motivational wards will help many students to join chess events.
CRPF, Magicians enter Callaghan Cup semis
Bhubaneswar: CRPF and Mumbai Magicians registered back to back win in their respective league round matches and entered the semifinal of the Callaghan Cup All India Div-II Rugby Tournament at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Thursday. In the pool-A one sided league match, CRPF edged out Bihar 51-0, similarly, Mumbai Magicians prevailed over Tamil Nadu 31-0. Earlier on Wednesday, CRPF and Mumbai Magician defeated KISS and Kalinga RFC respectively. With double win both the team topped their respective group. Results: CRPF bt Bihar 51-0, Mumbai Magician bt Tamil Nadu 31-0, J&K bt Chhattisgarh 34-0, Delhi Rebels bt Rajasthan 72-0.
Jay Durga, Rising win in FAO league
Bhubaneswar: Jay Durga Club and Rising Star Club defeated Radha Raman Club and SAI STC 2-1 and 3-1 respectively in the super league round matches of the FAO 1st Div Football league at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Thursday. Jay Durga got the lead in the 6th minute through a goal by Chandrashekhar Behera. But Imanuel Emmi of Radha Raman netted the equalizer in the 6th minute. After the lemon breaks, Pandu Singh nailed the winning goal for the Jay Durga in the 67th minute.
In another match, racing from the behind, Rising Star Club beat SAI 3-1 goals.Arjun Nayak of the SAI drew the first blood in the 29th minute and team dominated the first half. But Rising Star bounced back in style, Aktar Husen leveled the score in the 49th minute. Sk Rajan and Sk Moin netted a goal each in the 64th and79th minutes respectively.

Odisha beat Vidarbha in Vijaya Hazare trophy
Bhubaneswar: In the closely contested match, the all-round performance Alok Sahu, who contributed 35 and scalped five wicket powered Odisha to beat Vidarbha by three runs in their inaugural match of the Vijaya Hazare Trophy Group-C league at Delhi on Thursday.
The match was roller coaster rides as first Vidarbha were reduced to 5 for 59. Then they made a stunning comeback as Jangid (97) and Karnewar (72) added 157 runs for the sixth wicket and brought the team well within the reach of a win.
With just 11 needed, Alok Sahoo (5 wickets) and Basant Mohanty (2 wickets) wrecked havoc and took last five wickets for just seven runs, thus causing a heartbreak for Vidarbha.
Earlier, batting first, Odisha struggled in the beginning were lost top six wickets for 125. Arabind Singh and Alok stitched 92 for the seventh wicket and team total reached 226 for 9. With the win, Odisha gained four points and to take on Maharashtra on Friday.
